The right size for your child will depend on the need for growth versus more warmth now. Most youth fit into two sizes, the smaller one being firmer (and warmer) and the larger size a lose fit with room to grow.
We have found with youth's growing up that somewhere between 12yrs - 16yrs they will change to an adults size wetsuit. Often the Youth sizes of 14yr and 16yr seem to fit the bigger 10 & 12 yr olds. Height and weight are the two measurements that usually indicate this.
Below are two kinds of charts:
- body measurements: general measurements of body shapes and their closest size
- wetsuit measurements: the actual measurements of our youth wetsuits and Hot Tops

What is the difference between a Vortex and a Viper youth wetsuit?
The Vortex Youth model is available in a Spring or Steamer (long arms and legs) and is made from standard stretch Yamamoto #38 neoprene. It has a back zip and the steamer has ankle zips for ease of entry.
The Vortex is sized from 2yr old to 16yr old. It is ideal for kids that are boating, jet-skiing or general water playing.
If the kids are surfing or competing in Surf Lifesaving the super stretch in the Viper model is really ideal.
The Viper Youth model is also available in a Spring, Long Sleeve Spring or a Steamer. It is made from a combination of neoprenes, Standard stretch Yamamoto neoprene in the torso and legs and super stretch Yamamoto neoprene in the arms and shoulders. It comes with the option of a back zip entry or a chest zip entry (ideal for surfing) and is constructed with a flatlock seam.
