Seventhwave: the inside story

With epic surfing, kiteboarding and bodyboarding from a few of the Seventhwave team, and picturesque New Zealand surf scenery, Seventhwave: the inside story is a behind-the-scenes peek into the world of Seventhwave Wetsuits.

What goes into a custom-fit wetsuit? What is different about Seventhwave? Not all wetsuits are the same: fit and neoprene are the two major factors. The new video highlights why custom-fit and limestone neoprene are the ultimate, and shares footage of wetsuits in action in some of the coldest waters around New Zealand.

Kahuna Boardrider's 30th Anniversary of the Go For Gold

The ‘Go For Gold’ surfing contest is held annually by the Kahuna Boardriders club as part of the South Island Surfing Circuit. 2012 marked a proud milestone for the club, who have been combining friendly West Coast hospitality and amazing surf locations for a whopping 30 years! And 2012 was no different, with fun waves, collective camaraderie and surfing stoke on offer for competitors and spectators alike.

Kaikoura Cold Water Classic 2011

2011 saw the O'Neill Kaikoura Cold Water Classic run for the 34th time, with a variety of waves on offer at Meatworks and Mangamanu. The South Island weather was slightly warmer than usual, while Kaikoura's stunning scenery and some hot surfing kept spirits high—especially in the Junior section.

Speights Surf to Summit

SpeightsSurfToSummit.jpg

Speights Surf to Summit, a world record attempt to ski and surf every day for the length of New Zealand from Cape Reinga to Bluff.

In September 2010, Alex Herbert, Tom Dunbar, Maria Kuzma, and Angus Kebbell drove, choppered, ferried, flew, surfed and skied the length of the country from Cape Reinga to Bluff in five days. Their mission: to surf and ski on each day of the trip. The 100 year storm that rocked New Zealand that week made for last-minute itinerary changes and a dramatic final surf on a snow-covered Southland beach. Luckily they had Seventhwave wetsuits to keep them warm! Watch the entire mission here.

Low Absorption Yamamoto Neoprene: Seventhwave

Seventhwave's Yamamoto neoprene has closed cells that are packed together at an extremely high density and individually filled with nitrogen gas to prevent water penetration and increase heat retention. The nitrogen closed cell content is over 92% — 23% higher than most competing materials — and with virtually no water absorption means the weight of our rubber remains nearly identical in wet or dry conditions, giving you more warmth than thicker wetsuits without the weight

Maru Pou and his family (such as brother Haami) are a regular fixture in the deep south of New Zealand. As you can see, they don't let the cold effect their surfing. Here's Maru testing his MAX 4/3.

Canterbury Women's Champs 2010

Early March saw the comp held in difficult 2ft conditions at New Brighton. A great turnout of over 35 women charged the tough tide and made this years event, sponsored by O'Neill and Sisco Surf, a great day for both women's shortboarding and longboarding in Christchurch.

Sumner Bar

Swamped with a solid East swell over the weekend of January 15th-16th, Sumner Bar (and Sumner locals) were frothing! Who said Christchurch doesn't get waves?

The South Island Grom Series attracted a record number of entries this year with over thirty young surfers competing in three age groups. The contest was held at the picturesque Te Oka Bay on the southern side of Banks Peninsular, Canterbury NZ, where competitors enjoyed up to 1.0m waves with offshore wind conditions.

With event organisers moving the contest to the more sheltered Taylors Mistake, Christchurch, the grommets were rewarded with pumping two-to-three foot peaks for most of the day. With the sun belting down, groms of all ages rounded up Event 2 of the South Island Series in style.

SISA Circuit 2009
The Weka Stitch Cape Classic was held at Tauranga Bay, Westport over Labour Weekend (24-25th October). The absolutely brilliant weather made a great contrast to the last few years, making the 19th anniversary competition a huge success. Longboard, shortboard, men's, women's and groms: it's all in the video above.

A snapshot of the O'Neill Kaikoura Cold Water Classic shot over Queen's Birthday weekend, held in frigid but fun waves on the East Coast of South Island, New Zealand. Some great pics of the Cold Water Classic can also be found at Phoam Surf Blog courtesy of Nic Reeves. News and results of the event are also online at stuff.co.nz. Check it out!
