We run a busy surf school, 0800 80 SURF
in Sumner. Wetsuits in surf schools get a hammering. We have been using Seventhwave suits for over 10 years. What we like about Seventhwave suits most, is their durability, we are getting three seasons out of our suits which is great for a surf school. Wetsuits are taken on and off up to three times a day for six months of the year by clients who can be quite rough. Seventhwave suits are not the cheapest on the market but they are the best value and last for years. If we have repairs then the team at Seventhwave can work miracles to recover a broken suit. Repair service is quick, often same day service which is what we need in the peak of the season.
Paul has been great over the years customizing suits for our needs and also helping us with our branding on all the wetsuits.
Our clients often comment on the warmth and comfort of our wetsuits. I can vouch for this myself, my Seventhwave wetsuits are the warmest and most comfortable suits I have used."

Here are my thoughts on my two favourite wetsuits.
The Seventhwave Triton
is by far the warmest suit I’ve ever used in my 28 years of surfing. A strong addiction to surfing means I have to surf all through a cold South Island winter. I can surf for 5 hours in my Triton and still not be cold. The waves pump here in the winter but often the water is only 7ºC with frost on the ground. I‘m warmer in my Triton than I am in four layers of clothing.
The furry lining is amazing, it’s like wearing a polar fleece and it somehow makes even a soaking wet wetty feel dry to put on. The custom fit is the way to go as it manages to even keep my chicken legs warm with no sags in the material.
The asymmetric zip is a cool little feature, they can set it up to the left or the right depending on if you’re goofy or natural so that way you never get flushed.
Max 1.5mm FL
The Max 1.5mm Comp
suit is my summer favourite. In summer our water is warm but there can still be a bit of a chill or a cold wind so the 1.5mm is great. It’s so light and flexi it feels like you’re naked and it’s surprisingly warm for something so thin. Being so light and flexi it takes only seconds to put on so if the surfs pumping and you’re frothing to get out there there’s no delay. I’ve had mine for four years and its still going strong, feels like it will last forever.
One final point I love about Seventhwave is the fact they’re locally made. I can go in a talk to the guys and girls who actually make the suit about any little adjustments I might like. In the unlikely event I need a repair I can drop it off and have it back within a few days. Awesome, no missed surfs.

For the last 10 years Outward Bound has exclusively used Seventhwave Wetsuits as part of our white water program. We choose to use Seventhwave Wetsuits because of the excellent quality of both the materials and workmanship. In terms of durability Seventhwave Wetsuits provide Outward Bound an excellent product and its great to be able to buy a New Zealand manufactured product."
Over the last few summers
our guides have been exploring the canyons of Fiordland –some of the deepest, gnarliest gorges found anywhere. These first descents require a lot of commitment and good gear. We’ve been wearing your 3/3 zipless titanium vipers, cos it’s often cold and we do a lot of very physical stuff. It’s great having a suit you can be warm in and still be able to move around freely.
When it’s really cold, it’s easy to layer up with a hot top [or more] underneath and there’s no loss of movement.
Really versatile [I use mine for snorkelling as well – with a hot top almost as warm as my dive suit] and I’ve thrashed it for a couple of years now – at play and at work. I’m way harder on suits than a surfer, but apparently it’s still repairable!"
On behalf of Shirley Boys' High School I would like to express our satisfaction with the wetsuits and great service that your company has supplied to us over the past four years.
It is reassuring to know that our students are safe and warm during water based activities due to the comfort and quality of your wetsuits. Our students particularly appreciate the opportunity to wear the wetsuits in the cooler waters of Purau Bay."
