November 2011
Well another year in which Kelly Slater rules—that's his 11th World Title. Kelly, you're the man! This month we take you canyoning in Switzerland, surfing in France and San Francisco, and back to New Zealand competitions. Guy Falkes tomorrow and then its 50 days till Christmas... get set for the wet.
THE LINEUP:
Canyoning Eldorado Ticino, Switzerland![]() Over the last year we've been developing wetsuits for canyoning—an extreme sport that puts incredible strain on a wetsuit (and body!). In this amazing canyoning video from Eldorado Ticino, Switzerland, Seventhwave wetsuits get put to the test—from cliff jumps to waterfall wandering, this stuff is crazy! Standby for a summer of surfing![]() Summer is knocking on the door here in Aotearoa as we look towards the 2012 Hyundai NZ Pro Longboard Tour. World renowned surf destination Raglan is included in the mix for the first time in the tours' six-year history, and is the first of five iconic events. New Zealand's best surfing family will receive their own surf wagon, and the Open Men's winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to the Noosa Surf Festival, Australia. Bring on a summer of surfing. Seventhwave Most Outstanding Surfer Award![]() This year we've initiated a new prize for surfers competing on the South Island surfing circuit. The Seventhwave Most Outstanding Surfer Award will be presented to whoever demonstrates the highest degree of outstanding individual performance during each contest. At the Westport Cape Classic Max Cooke and Rowan Morris were in the running, but it was Anthony Hema who took out the Grand Prize of a customised wetsuit of his choosing. Who will win at the Greymouth Go For Gold in February? Slater wins 11 in '11![]() Kelly Slater, the world's greatest surfer, has just got a little greater—winning his 11th World Title yesterday in San Francisco. Slater beat a ripping Daniel Ross in Round 3 to secure his historic win, and now the rest of the surfers will scramble for placings at Pipeline (the last event of the year). Yesterday also marked the one-year anniversary of the passing of Andy Irons. In a fitting tribute, Slater expressed that clinching his 11th ASP World Title would follow second in remembering the life of his friend. Feedback from Lacanau, France![]() I am very happy because I can really see a difference between my MAX and my other suits; it is more warm and flexible than my Rip Curl 3/2 E-Bomb, and my 4/3 Mormaii feels like a dive suit now! Didier Escassut Lacanau, France Skateboard Handplane: a How-To video![]() When the waves are small or you just need a change of pace, there’s nothing quite like going for a body surf. And adding one of these little planing surfaces to your act helps transform your body into a wave riding machine! Watch this How-To video to turn an old skateboard into beautiful, functional handplane. Sick. Summer down-under is here! So if your wetsuit needs a medical, send it in and we’ll give it a complete maintenance service to extend its use-by date. Even the best gear can suffer from high-mileage and over-use fatigue. We love feedback, good and not-so-good; it’s the only way we can improve so don’t hold back. For the latest in pics, vid, and blog action, visit us online. Seventhwave online changes daily.
