Seventhwave's Most Outstanding Surfer Award

MOFA 600

The Seventhwave Most Outstanding Surfer Award (MOSA) will be presented to the surfer who demonstrates the highest degree of outstanding individual performance throughout a contest.

We want to reward those who surf above and beyond their own personal limits, push their own boundaries, and create the flashpoint of the event—the move, wave, heat or performance everyone's talking about.

What do surfers have to do to win this award?
The Most Outstanding Surfer doesn't have to end up on the podium or even win a heat to receive the award. Instead, the surfer will be judged on:

  • pushing their own limits
  • achieving personal bests
  • committed & high performance surfing
  • wow factor
  • respect of their peers

Finalists will be nominated by the judges over the course of the competition, with a winner announced at prize giving.

What does the winner get?
Whoever receives the Most Outstanding Surfer Award is entitled to any Seventhwave wetsuit, hand-crafted and custom-fit to their 22 unique measurements (valued at around $899).

Past winners
  • At the 2011 Westport Cape Classic Max Cooke and Rowan Morris were in the running, but it was Anthony Hema who took out the first ever MOSA award—and the Grand Prize of a customised wetsuit of his choosing.

  • Held over Waitangi Weekend, the waves on offer at Cobden for the 2012 Go For Gold meant many contenders were in the running. In the end, it was Dave Watkins who pipped James Washer and Sam Sands for the second-ever MOSA award.

  • 13-year-old Xavier Campbell became our youngest MOSA winner at the 2012 Canterbury Champs, thanks to noticeably improved and honed surfing. Xavier had to fight of a host of other groms nipping at his heels for the award, especially Nick Takarama and Jack Wilson. These guys have obviously been practicing, and a friendly competitive rivalry has seen the overall level of youth surfing develop in leaps and bounds.
